Eggciting fun! :)

I have an enormous box of plastic eggs left over from last year.  We pulled them out and I got to work finding some uses for them!  First thing I did was to put a capital and lower case letter on each egg.  Capital on the top of the egg and lowercase on the bottom.  I initially used a Sharpie but it rubbed right off.  I then used stickers instead.  The girls practice matching the letter and saying the sounds.  Lila is a real pro at this!
Checking for a match

Yay!  I found one!

She found a match too!

Once Sophia went to take a nap, Lila and I were able to do several more activities!  First up-put the eggs in alphabetical order.

I then had Lila sing the alphabet and point to each letter as she did it.  It was very interesting to watch the one to one correspondence when she got to "lmnop".  We had to go through it several times to show L M N O P were actually individual letters in the song and not "ellen memo".  She now gives Sophia lessons on it daily when she sings it.

Very proud
Next up-scour the house for an item that starts with each letter of the alphabet.  It was a lot of fun and definitely more challenging than I was expecting!  Lila did a great job though and we were able to find everything except for Q.
girl, hat, ice cream, jingle bells...

Lila has become very skilled in identifying letter sounds.  She took it upon herself to build some words while I was doing something else.  She yelled for me to come and see what she spelled.  I was pretty impressed!
She told me that she spelled "giraffe".  Phonetically yes, she did!

She has gotten pretty good at the "at" family.

The next day we decided to do some measuring.  We measured a bunch of stuff around the house using our plastic eggs.  It was a lot of fun as you can see.  We recorded everything on our chart!

He was so mad at me for making him be still.  He desperately wanted to see what Lila was doing to him:)

This was the most entertaining!

Lila wrote the answers.

Sink or float

We had some very warm weather a few weeks ago and I decided that it was time to get out the water table for some fun.  I collected objects from around the house and we did a sink or float science experiment.
The loot

We made predictions if the object would sink or float based on how it felt.  The girls put in the appropriate bin.

Lila was very good at making predictions.  She gave me a valid reason for each decision that she made.

Testing out our predictions-We discussed why the objects were sinking or floating.

After we were done, I added bubbles to the water just for fun.

We also did some painting that day.  I have a large piece of plexi-glass drilled into our deck right off of our kitchen.  Sometimes I hang paper but other time they just paint right on the glass.  We then wash it off for more fun!  I love it!  The girls can paint outside while I am cooking or cleaning the kitchen.

It was clearly game day!  Go Boilers!
